On Wednesday July 08, 2009 I was shocked when at 5 months pregnant my water broke unexpectedly. I was immediately rushed and admitted into the hospital. After being admitted into the maternity ward at St. Francis Hospital, I underwent an internal exam that confirmed that my water had indeed broken. I was then told that I wouldn't go back home pregnant and I would be spending the rest of my pregnancy in bed. After reviewing my options with the doctors of St. Francis we decided it would be in the best interest of me and the baby if we were transferred to Christiana Hospital. On Thursday July 09, 2009 we were transferred to Christiana Hospital and that was also the day I felt contractions for the first time. Although, I was no longer contracting on the night of Friday July 10, 2009 I began to hemorrhage and the doctors took me to labor and delivery. On Saturday July 11, 2009 I woke up and the blood had stopped but I began contracting around 7am, by 8am the doctors of Christiana Hospital had given me a dose of magnesium sulfate which slowed my labor. By 12:30pm I was given a second dose of magnesium sulfate but this time while in process of getting checked the doctor noticed that the baby's umbilical cord was in my vagina. I was immediately rushed for cesarean section and by 1:50pm I had given birth to Isaiah Javon Swinton-Fews and because his young lungs were too premature by 2:58pm Isaiah passed away.
This blog is written in memory of my son Isaiah Javon Swinton-Fews. I pray that this blog will become not only a discussion board but a comfort zone for mothers who have been through a similar situation, miscarried earlier in her pregnancy, stillbirth or SIDS/SUID. This blog is also for the mother who has a baby that lived through prematurity that is now living with health complications. Here at First Candle: All babies survive and thrive we can express our feelings, discuss the healing process and desire to help those going through what we have gone through. Also, discuss what the world is doing to make sure all babies survive and thrive.
